To and Fro

We took time out from our regular programming this week to turn some attention to Melbourne’s nascent chipmusic scene with the help of three special guests – Eugene Davoren-Britton, who is the the man behind Sound Bytes, Melbourne’s only regular night celebrating chiptune; and cTrix & Maddest Kings Alive, two of Melbourne’s most active and interesting chiptune artists who each hooked their consoles straight into the RRR mainframe for some Sunday night live chiptune!

cTrix rocked out a LSDJ-enabled Game Boy through a DJ mixer, resulting in something akin to a Super Mario Rave Party; while Maddest Kings Alive ran his PSP through a laptop running Audiomulch, generating more reflective experimental chip tones. Eugene brought in a selection of fresh chiptune sounds from around the world, and we snuck in a few related things of our own. It was mad. A To and Fro not to be missed.

If you are in Melbourne, make sure you head down to the Soundbytes party happening this Friday night at the Queensberry Hotel – after ingeniously sourcing funding for the event online, they’ve hired a killer sound system and flown chiptune artists in from various far-flung places. cTrix and Maddest Kings Alive will be down there, alongside South Africa’s Sparkyboy, Brisbane’s Dot.AY and many others.
