Erasure!

Hello, Tim here.

Astute observers will have noted that last week this blog underwent a decidedly underwhelming design overhaul – in a freak (read: dumb) behind-the-scenes accident, I wiped out the site’s custom theme. It used to have a pretty header, and cooler fonts, and little sketches of me and Dave’s little heads. All it took was a couple of dumbass clicks of the mouse from me behind the scenes, and the blog has reverted to a bland albeit functional default theme.

Funny that it happened last week, because in two weeks time I’ll be erasing myself from To and Fro. If you haven’t caught the news, I’m leaving the show to join RRR’s breakfast team for 2010. I’m incredibly sad to leave the show but being asked to join the Breakfasters feels a bit like being summoned to dinner with the Queen – it doesn’t really matter what you’re plans might have been for the night, you should probably drop them and go anyway, even just to see what happens. So, I’ll be sacrificing my sleeping patterns to get up early in the mornings for 2010, but it honestly feels like the bigger sacrifice is losing the opportunity to talk shit with Dave weekly, and to share that shit with our lovable if somewhat imagined cadre (Or is it a cabal? Or both?) of Sunday night listeners. Oh yeah, and between the talking we played music.

For the short term, To and Fro will continue without me – and despite what my clumsy attempt at simile in the opening paragraph might have implied, the show will most definitely not ‘revert to a bland albeit functional theme’ after my erasure. Most of the songs you’ve liked on To and Fro over the last two years have probably been courtesy of Dave. He is an astute and considered arbiter of music. The hip house, the Prince, the auto-tuned commercial pop, the ‘annoying’ chiptune stuff – suffice it to say, I’ve been responsible for most of the times you’ve turned our show off in disgust. Kinda proud of it too.

In the longer term, we’re not sure exactly what’s happening yet – if you’re a fan of the show and particularly of what Dave does on it, please leave us a note or write to your local MP.

Two more weeks – my last show is January 17th.

I’ve done this before, but the original theme can easily be recovered, it should be in the theme browser somewhere.
Just select the original theme you had. You probably will have trouble finding it if the designer didn’t label the theme and give it a proper thumbnail.

I reckon you should swap with Jonathan Alley, then you can do both.

    Or is that being greedy?

re: the theme, i’m the designer, and i stupidly made the custom theme in the ‘default’ folder or whatever its called, which was swiftly overwritten when i tried the new-fangled “auto-upgrade” feature of wordpress. i suck.
